In
High School and College, Karen was
a competitive athlete on Basketball
and Softball teams. She
was also a member of the non-competitive
College Jump Rope Demonstration
Team for the American Heart Association.
After graduation from Youngstown
(Ohio) State University in 1984
with a B.S. degree in Exercise Science
and Health Education, Karen began
a 13-year career teaching and coaching
Physical Education, Health, and
Special Education in Texas Public
Schools. Since 1984 Karen Miller
has entered more than 160 amateur
athletic competitions in the sports
of Road Racing (10k and Marathon),
Bicycle Racing, and Triathlon. She
placed 1st or 2nd in her category
in 81 of these events. In major
victories, Karen won both the Dallas
Marathon and the Monterrey, Mexico
Marathon in 1984 and won the Texas
Ironman Sesquicentennial Triathlon
in 1987.
